The Earthshot Prize is heading to Singapore!

After the inaugural ceremony in London in 2021, and last year's event in Boston, Prince William's Earthshot Prize Awards will take place in Singapore this year, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Here's everything we know so far about the awards.

"The Earthshot Prize is all about showing the world that solutions to some of the biggest environmental challenges we face are out there and need to be scaled," Prince William said in a statement. "After two years of discovering impactful ideas and innovations, I am delighted that The Earthshot Prize is travelling to Singapore where the ground-breaking solutions of our 2023 Finalists will be celebrated."

Prince William and Kate Middleton went to Singapore in 2012, as part of the Diamond Jubilee Tour. While no details of a trip have been announced yet, it is likely that the Princess of Wales will join Prince William for Earthshot 2023, as neither have missed an Earthshot ceremony yet.

The ceremony will honor five winners.

The location of Southeast Asia is fitting, as the region is one of the most affected by climate change. Yet, per the Earthshot Prize, "In the face of significant environmental challenges, it is also a hub for innovators, entrepreneurs, community leaders and problem solvers who are committed to restoring our planet. This optimistic approach embodies the spirit of The Earthshot Prize, and, as the gateway to Southeast Asia, Singapore provides the perfect venue for the 2023 Winners to be announced."

During the ceremony, five winners will be awarded £1 million to help scale their environmental solutions. Performances by musicians and artists will also take place during the ceremony.

There will be an "Earthshot Week" for the first time.

And, for the first time, the award ceremony will be part of "Earthshot Week," where "global leaders, businesses and investors convene in Singapore to explore exciting opportunities with The Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists, aimed at accelerating their solutions and bringing about tangible action to repair the planet." The 2023 Prize will be supported by Temasek Trust, Temasek, GenZero and Conservation International.

The Earthshot Prize is publishing a book for young people.

Ahead of this year's prize, Prince William will write the introduction to this "empowering and practical handbook for young changemakers who want to save the planet," published by Hatchette’s Children Group. The book, by Colin Butfield and Jonnie Hughes, will feature contributions from David Attenborough, Shailene Woodley, and Christiana Figueres, former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"The task of repairing our planet isn’t an easy one, and it will most certainly take a generation’s worth of time to achieve," co-authors Butfield and Hughes said in a statement. "But we can motivate this special generation – one with so many young changemakers already out there doing important work and making real change. But we need more, and it is vital that we do everything we can to empower the next generation on their journey. We created this handbook to give young people the tools they need to make real, impactful change to our planet. We hope the book will encourage young dreamers to be stubborn optimists, with resilient, positive attitudes and the conviction that the changes they make will, ultimately, improve the world for everyone."

Earthshot is teaming up with YouTube.

For the 2023 Earthshot Prize, the organization teamed up with YouTube for a two-year partnership. According to YouTube, "The Earthshot Prize will work with YouTube to produce content which inspires users to drive action against climate change with stories of urgent optimism from around the world." The platform will also promote Earthshot's YouTube channel and help build an engaged community. It ties into the Prince and Princess of Wales's recent focus on the platform.

"Our vision is to make YouTube the world’s leading destination for awareness, education, and action on the global climate crisis and partnering with The Earthshot Prize allows us to raise the voices of authoritative experts on this important issue. It also provides an opportunity to spotlight and celebrate the innovative solutions presented by the finalists for this year’s award," Pedro Pina, Head of YouTube Europe, Middle East & Africa said in a statement.
