Prince Harry Makes His Stand-Up Comedy Debut for a Good Cause
Prince Harry stepped out of his comfort zone for a good cause. Yesterday, the Duke of Sussex spoke, via video message, at the 17th annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit, where he made his stand-up comedy debut and gave a touching speech about the military community.
The event was hosted at Lincoln Center by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and New York Comedy Festival, in support of veterans, service members, and their families. Notable stars in attendance included husband-and-wife actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, comedian Tracy Morgan, and singer Bruce Springsteen, who performed.
“As someone who never gets scrutinized, I haven’t even had to prepare much. But I have been working on this particular act for quite some time. And everyone I know tells me it’s perfect. No, these aren’t people who just tell me what I want to hear. Oh no,” Harry joked in his appearance.
The prince‘s speech then took on a more serious note, as he recalled his 10 years in the military and praised the brave individuals who fight for their countries, and for justice, every day.
“I know our experiences and journeys to this point differ, but we are always connected through what we’ve learned as humans, what we faced as families, and how we’ve come out stronger because of our ability to listen, to understand, and to support one another,” he said. “I am immensely grateful for this community, for the experiences of the past and present, and for what you represent and how you show up.”
