Primary school handed funds for new classroom
A school has received a "substantial investment" of £650,000 to develop a new classroom and upgrade toilet facilities.
Cumberland Council has announced the funding for Cumwhinton School in Carlisle.
The local authority said the extension will create additional capacity and "enriched learning opportunities" amid increasing demand for school places.
Work started earlier in the year and is scheduled for completion by August.
A new classroom will be added to the existing large single-storey building, featuring a pitched roof and concrete tiles.
Carlisle-based Architects Plus designed the new facilities, and the construction is to be carried out by local firm Cubby Construction.
Councillor Elaine Lynch said the investment in local companies helps secure and enhance local employment.
Cumwhinton headteacher Jon Stewart added: "With this expansion, we aim to enhance the learning environment for our pupils, equipping them with the tools and resources needed to thrive in an ever-changing world."
