‘The Price Is Right’ had its closest Showcase bid ever, and Drew Carey’s reaction was great

A lucky contestant on "The Price Is Right" made game show history when his winning bid for the prize package during the Showcase Showdown segment came in at just a dollar under the package's retail price.

Patrice Masse from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, bid $39,500 on a prize package that included a trip to Miami and a new car on the show's June 7 episode.

When host Drew Carey glanced at the package's retail price at a card in his hand, he took a few steps back and held his mouth open in astonishment.

"So, let me tell you. Let me just tell you: $39,501," Carey said, causing Masse to sink down to the ground in shock as audience members cheered.

“Off by a dollar,” a stunned Carey continued before making his way over to Masse to pat him on the back.

"With absolutely no help from anybody in the audience, by the way," Carey added.

"The Price Is Right" posted a video on Instagram showing Masse's winning guess, which Carey called “the best Showcase bid in the history of the show, in my opinion."

Masse's wife, Tina, can be seen jumping up and down in excitement before dashing onto the show's set to embrace her husband.

Masse ended up taking home a total of $83,068 in prizes.

"What an incredible moment on today’s #PriceisRight! Congratulations to Patrice— our jaws are still on the floor!" the game show wrote alongside the video.

"The Price Is Right" fans also celebrated Masse's history-making moment in the video's comments.

"When Drew backed up, you knew it was gonna be BIG! Love it! Congrats," one noted.

"I watched it this morning and it was crazy. Off by just $1. It was great to watch and Drew’s expression," wrote another.

Other fans pointed out that while Masse’s Showcase Showdown bid was almost perfect, another contestant years ago guessed the exact retail price during the Showcase Showdown. That controversial moment was examined in the 2017 documentary “Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much.”
