Press & Sun Student of the Week: See the nominations and vote

The nominations for the latest Press & Sun-Bulletin Student of the Week are in, and you can now vote for the week's top student.

Voting is open until noon, Thursday, Feb. 8, on our website.

We will announce the winner at pressconnects.com on Friday, Feb. 9, and in the Press & Sun-Bulletin on Sunday, Feb. 11. Our next poll will publish on Monday, Feb. 12, with a new list of nominees.

Local school administrators nominated students who have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and provide the details on their accomplishments below.

And the nominees for the Press & Sun-Bulletin Student of the Week are …

Madison Burton, Union-Endicott: Madison is a senior in the top 20 of her class. She will be attending Binghamton University in the fall and will graduate in June with a 95+ average.

Throughout high school, she has constantly challenged herself with AP and dual-credit courses while volunteering for her community.

She is the creator of Feeding Broome, a Facebook group dedicated to connecting Broome residents with food. Through this endeavor, she was selected to attend the state conference for Healthy School Meals for all students last year in Albany.

On top of it all, she is a member of National Honor Society and a Vision Credit Union Branch Intern.

Isabella Cobb, Johnson City: Isabella is a senior who has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership and academic achievements.

President of the National Honor Society and a vital member of our Student Advisory Council, she leads Key Club, Ski Club, and Spanish Club and captains the varsity indoor track, outdoor track and cross country teams, showcasing her dedication to both academics and athletics.

Her commitment to community service is evident through internships at Kopernik Observatory and Core Essentials Physical Therapy. Fluent in Spanish, Isabella earned the Seal of Biliteracy, demonstrating her dedication to linguistic and cultural proficiency, and jobs at Walls Insurance Agency and Dick's House of Sport have strengthened her communication and customer service skills.

Her exceptional leadership qualities, character, and commitment to community service make her a standout individual deserving of recognition.

Sophira Gilliard-White, Maine-Endwell: Sophira, a junior, is a highly talented and dedicated student. Her involvement in the symphonic band, wind ensemble, and pep band, as well as her participation in the NYSSMA Solo and Small Ensemble Festival, showcases her commitment to musical excellence.

Being accepted into the BCMEA 10-12th Grade All-County Band highlights her skill and musical prowess, and performing with a guest conductor and fellow music students at the Binghamton University Anderson Center is a testament to her talent and dedication to her craft.

Sophira's engagement in the Spartan Theater Company, specifically in stage crew and lights, demonstrates her versatility and willingness to contribute beyond the realm of music. Her involvement in creating hand-crafted gifts for the Graduates of Distinction dinner in May 2023 highlights her sense of community and generosity.

With an overall GPA of 91.6, Sophira is also committed to excellence in her coursework. She takes on challenges and strives for success in all aspects of her high school experience.

Adelie Wilson, Chenango Valley: Adelie is president of the Senior Class 2024 and president of the Student Athletic Club.

She is also a New Visions Health Academy Student and participates in the National Honor Society and Travel and Culture Club at Chenango Valley High School.

In addition to her club participation, Adelie is also on the Section IV Student Athlete Committee and is a three-sport athlete — she plays tennis, indoor track, and track and field. She volunteers as Youth Tennis Coach at Binghamton Tennis Center and as Special Events Staff at Head over Heels Gymnastics.

Adelie is a wonderful student and a great representative of Chenango Valley.
