Presenting: A Handy-Dandy Guide to Kate Middleton’s Siblings

In case you needed a royal refresher, Kate Middleton and her two younger siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, are all related by way of their parents, Michael and Carole Middleton.
The family grew up together in the village of Bucklebury, England, and while a bunch has changed for the Middleton kids since their childhood (uhmmmm, take for instance, Kate becoming a legit princess!!!!), they still remain as tight as ever.
Ahead, everything you need to know about Kate's two siblings.
Pippa Middleton
Pippa, aka the middle Middleton child (try saying that five times fast lol), was born Philippa Charlotte Middleton on September 6, 1983.
Following her 2007 graduation from the University of Edinburgh, where she obtained a degree in English Literature, Pippa briefly worked at a public relations firm where she promoted luxury products. Soon after, however, she wound up at her mother's company Party Pieces and began writing some of its blog content before eventually publishing her 2012 book about hosting events, Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends.

In 2022, Pippa received a Master's degree in Physical Education, Sport, and Physical Literacy from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Interestingly enough, in more recent years, Kate's sister has become increasingly focused on charity work—especially after her 2017 wedding to hedge fund manager James Matthews.
The couple tied the knot at St. Mark's Church in Englefield, England on May 20, 2017, and had their nephew Prince George and niece Princess Charlotte as part of their bridal party. 🥺❤️

Pippa and James later welcomed their children—Arthur Michael William Matthews, Grace Elizabeth Jane Matthews, and Rose Louise Victoria Matthews—in October 2018, March 2021, and June 2022, respectively. Though the two generally tend to keep their 'ship out of the limelight, Pippa *has* occasionally spoken about how she's juggled being a mother with her professional life.
“I am passionate about sport and exercise and also love being with children. I wanted to find a topic that combined these two and felt that there wasn’t enough information, knowledge or focus on early years physical development for mums particularly. I wanted to learn to not only help my own children but to also continue work in the field to stress the importance of children moving from an early age,” she said in a statement from her program at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (via Hello!).

James Middleton
The youngest Middleton child, James William Middleton, was born on April 15, 1987. Like Pippa, James also had a stint at their family's party planning business, Party Pieces, prior to venturing out on his own. He briefly attended the University of Edinburgh but dropped out in order to launch the Cake Kit Company in 2017—a product that provided baking kits to individuals who wanted to bake their own cakes IRL. However, the company eventually dissolved in May 2015.
In 2013, James co-founded Boomf—a marshmallow company that wound up expanding to offer a whole host of gifts—which ultimately sold in 2021. However, these were far from his last attempts at long-lasting companies. Enter: James & Ella, a dog food order company he launched in 2020. Here's a bit about its origin c/o the brand's website:
“I founded James & Ella, a happiness and wellbeing company for dogs, as a way of giving back to my dogs that have done so much for me.
Ella, my eldest black cocker spaniel, is the namesake of our company. She is my teacher, therapist and best friend. I wanted to share my story with you; about my mental health and the emotional support I received from my dogs.
Ella came to every single one of my therapy sessions. I’d make excuses not to go, if Ella couldn’t be there with me. Just being by my side, she was helping me tremendously and had an immense positive impact. It’s not always been easy for me to talk about my struggles with anxiety and depression, but Ella has been the one to encourage me to get the help I needed.
Ella is the first dog I got as an adult. She is the matriarch of my pack and the one who has been there to help and guide me through a large portion of my adult life. I owe a lot to Ella and I believe she is a large reason I was able to overcome the deep struggles I have had with my mental illnesses. She is truly my inspiration and the inspiration behind James & Ella.”
Btw, Ella can also be credited with another one of James's most meaningful milestones: marrying Alizée Thevene. In a 2019 essay for The Telegraph, he revealed he met his now-wife at the South Kensington Club in Chelsea after his cocker spaniel “made a beeline” for the French financial analyst. In a hilarious turn of events, she thought he was a waiter and asked for a drink—and the rest is, how you say, history after the two ultimately wed in September 2021 in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France.
Another sweet tidbit from the couple's love story? The fact that Alizée's “something borrowed” for her nuptials was none other than Carole Middleton's wedding dress!
“While talking about dresses with Carole and sharing ideas during lockdown for inspiration, I tried on her wedding dress and fell in love with it,” she revealed to Hello! magazine back in September 2022. “It fitted me perfectly and was exactly what I wanted. It always troubled me that wedding dresses are only worn once, so it was amazing to give such a beautiful dress a second lease of life.” Obsessed!
The couple eventually became first-time parents when their son, Inigo Middleton, was born on October 26, 2023.
“No matter how prepared I thought I was…I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion of meeting Inigo for the first time and the love for my darling Alizée as we became three,” James penned on Instagram while sharing snaps of the newborn.

Case in point? Since 2014, Pippa has served as an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation. When her ambassadorship was announced in 2014, Kate's sister spoke out about how she wanted to raise awareness about the importance of heart health specifically for women: “I was shocked to learn that nearly three times more women die from coronary heart disease than breast cancer. I’m passionate about raising awareness amongst women of this killer disease and I look forward to working with the BHF to highlight to women the risks of heart disease and importantly, how they can reduce them.”
James, too, has gotten into the philanthropy space by working with charities such as Pets as Therapy, where he serves as an ambassador after personally experiencing the “incredible impact” of animals.
“The charity does amazing work, bringing the joy and comfort of animals to those in need, whether it's in hospitals, nursing homes, schools or other environments. I’m so grateful to be a part of such a meaningful organisation,” he said in his bio, which can be found on the organization’s website.
In addition, his dog food company donated cold-pressed food in May 2023 to displaced animals in Ukraine by way of K9 Rescue International. “I’m humbled and proud to have recently donated a shipment of Ella & Co cold-pressed dog food to @k9rescueinternational, a charity that’s dedicated to feeding and rescuing displaced dogs in Ukraine. They are a small team who are making a big difference, and I’m honoured to have played a small part in their efforts. I’m so grateful that there are organisations going above and beyond to help support these innocent souls,” James wrote via Instagram at the time.
