Holden Brown
Holden Brown

Holden Brown

Lincoln, Sophomore

It was a breakthrough year for Brown, who makes his debut as a First-Team All-Stater. A Second-Team selection for the Lions last winter, Brown started his state meet with his first gold, swimming a 1:52.39 to hold off fellow All-Stater George Groves for the 200-yard individual medley title. Brown later finished with a silver in the 100 freestyle and will enter his junior season as the state’s top swimmer.

Jack Chiappetta

Blackstone Valley Prep, Sophomore

Another member of the talented sophomore class, Chiappetta wrapped up a spectacular sophomore season with his first gold. The Pride sophomore — a Second-Team selection last winter — finished strong to win the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.99 seconds and came in third in the 100 backstroke. With two years left, he’ll be a threat to add two more golds next season.

George Groves

George Groves

Classical, Junior

This is Groves’ third All-State selection and second as a member of the First Team and it’s not hard to see why. While Groves didn’t repeat as 200 IM champ — he took second to fellow All-Stater Holden Brown — he did add a gold-medal win at states, finishing first in the 100 breaststroke, and he’ll be a double-gold threat in his senior year next winter.

Jordan Mowad

Moses Brown, Senior

Mowad wrapped up his career in impressive fashion and left himself quite a legacy as a four-time First-Team selection. Mowad, who will swim at Boston College next winter, had dominant gold-medal wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle and added two more as part of Moses Brown’s 200 medley and 400 free relay teams, helping the Quakers to a third-place finish at the state championships, one of the best in program history.

Zach Szabo
Zach Szabo

Zach Szabo

North Kingstown, Senior

It’s the fourth All-State appearance for Szabo and third on the first team, and he left little doubt about his abilities in his final state meet. Szabo hoped for a state record in the backstroke but had to settle for a standard gold medal, but managed to get a state record anyway with his finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.14 seconds, beating the record by 0.03 of a second to cap off his career.

Jarrett Zito
Jarrett Zito

Jarrett Zito

Cumberland, Sophomore

A Second-Team All-State selection as a freshman, Zito left no doubt about being a part of the First Team this winter. In one of the toughest events at the state meet, the sophomore finished strong in the final 25 yards and finished his 50 free in 21.37 seconds for the 0.02 of a second win. He later finished fourth in the 100 free and will be the favorite to repeat as sprint champ next winter.

The Quakers’ quartet put an end to the Barrington stranglehold on the event with an impressive finish. Moses Brown started the race and finished faster, and its time of 1:39.47 was good for a 0.79 of a secondwin over North Kingstown.

Depth was key to the Hawks’ team title this winter and their performance in the 4x200 relay showed as much. Curry's and Buchanan’s experience were huge, Andrews’ talent showed and Jordan finished with a flurry as their time of 1:31.43 helped them cruise to gold.

After breaking one impressive relay streak, the Quakers snapped another as their trio of talented freshmen and superstar senior put together quite a swim for a 3:17.42 finish, 2.33 seconds better than North Kingstown, which won gold and ended Hendricken’s four-year run in the event.
