Wednesday's results

SOFTBALL

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 2, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 0: At the University of Illinois Springfield’s Land of Lincoln Junior Olympic Softball Complex, Senators’ pitcher Mia Volpert fanned 16 batters to lead SHS to a Central State Eight Conference win over the Washington Street rival.

Volpert was nearly perfect. She walked none and allowed just one hit in her complete-game gem.

The senior also finished 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and three stolen bases offensively.

Volpert led off the bottom of the first with a single to left field, stole second and third and scored on an RBI ground out by Megan Bullock for a 1-0 SHS lead.

In the bottom of the third, Volpert walked, moved to second on a fielder’s choice, went to third on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball for the Senators’ final tally.

Lydia Cliburn had Springfield’s only other hit.

SHG’s Kenzie Wieland struck out 11 in the loss. She allowed two runs on three hits and four walks. She had the Cyclones’ lone hit off Volpert.

The Senators improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the CS8 while SHG fell to 5-6 (2-2) and has lost five of its last six games.

Springfield avenged a 1-0 loss to SHG in a nonconference meeting on April 11.

BUFFALO TRI-CITY/SANGAMON VALLEY 13, NORTH MAC 10: At Buffalo, Lexie Patton hit the go-ahead RBI single and the Tornadoes broke the game open with five runs in the sixth inning.

Tiffany Farley and Lily Woodworth also produced RBI singles in the sixth and TCSV (15-3) led 13-8 by the end of the frame.

Patton additionally belted a solo home run in the third inning and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Kenzie Chandler had two hits and three runs, including a triple. Woodworth and Kamryn Sturdy each supplied two hits.

Sturdy took the win in three innings. She allowed four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts.

Sophie Gilmore led the Panthers (9-7) with two hits and three RBIs. Ines Ortigosa scored three runs on a hit and two walks.

PLEASANT PLAINS 7, TAYLORVILLE 2: At Pleasant Plains, Addy Davis hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second to break a 2-2 tie en route to the Cardinals’ non-conference win.

Jillian Cameron, Anna Nestler and Aspen Kitowski all doubled for the Cardinals, who improved to 13-7. Lexie Shimkus, Nestler and Peyton Davis had an RBI each.

Nestler struck out six and allowed two runs — none earned — on three hits and no walks in her complete-game outing.

PLEASANT PLAINS 1, ATHENS 0: At Pleasant Plains, Faith Nestler struck out 14 and threw a no-hitter in the Cardinals’ Sangamo Conference victory.

Two hit batters were the only thing that prevented Nestler from a perfect game.

Addy Davis reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fourth and advanced to second base on the same play. With two outs, Lexie Shimkus hit a fly ball to right field which was misplayed to allow Davis to score the go-ahead run.

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 18, LANPHIER 0 (4 innings): At Lawless Park, Karmen Edwards and Kate Feld each homered in a Central State Eight Conference victory.

Feld finished with three RBIs and three runs while Edwards had two RBIs and two runs. Cassie Feld produced two hits, two RBIs and three runs. Ava Bobb tripled and had two RBIs and two runs.

JACKSONVILLE 14, DECATUR EISENHOWER 1 (4 innings): At Jacksonville, MacKenzie Gerard tripled and doubled at the plate to end with four RBIs and two runs while Kenzie Law struck out 12 in the circle in a Central State Eight Conference win.

Mia Schaecher delivered three hits and two runs while Sommar Vedder had two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Chase Neice scored three runs.

NORMAL U-HIGH 14, LINCOLN 4 (6 innings): At Lincoln, Mariah Rankin reeled off two home runs in the Central State Eight Conference win.

She finished with four RBIs and two runs. Maddie Schierholz and Emmerson Steward each posted three hits, the latter totaling three RBIs and three runs. Ryan Coombs had two hits with three RBIs and two runs.

GILLESPIE 15, GREENFIELD/NORTHWESTERN 3 (5 innings): At Gillespie, Lauren Bertagnolli doubled and ended with two hits and three RBIs to lift the Miners to 17-4 overall.

Emma Gipson delivered two hits, two RBIs and two runs, including a double. Ava Parish also had two hits while Paxton Reid homered and Delaney Taylor tripled.

Reid struck out eight in the circle. She gave three runs on six hits and no walks.

LITCHFIELD 5, NOKOMIS 2: At Nokomis, Laynie Wyatt struck out eight and gave up just one earned run on two hits and a walk in the complete-game victory.

Bella Roach doubled with an RBI and run.

Reaghan Jonas suffered the loss in seven innings. She gave up three hits, three walks and two earned runs with seven strikeouts.

HAVANA 22, PEORIA HEIGHTS 0 (4 innings): At Peoria, Hannah Hodgson struck out 10 and allowed one hit and one walk in a complete-game shutout.

Libbie Johnson led the Ducks’ attack with a bases-loaded, inside-the-park home run to put Havana on top 12-0 in the first inning. Lily Snowden went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and teammate Jaydn Stone homered and drove in three runs.

PANA 11, MULBERRY GROVE 9: At Mulberry Grove, Kennedy Bowker went 4-for-5 with a double and Shelby Ashcraft homered as the Panthers had just enough offense to win the nonconference game.

The Panthers trailed 9-5 after five innings. In the top of the sixth, Bailey Evrley and Bowker led off with singles before Joey Laker loaded the bases when her fly ball to left field was misplayed. Ashcraft grounded into a fielder’s choice but Evrley scored. Izzy Reed then walked to load the bases again before Brianna Mathis drew an RBI walk as Pana clawed within 9-7.

Ashcraft then stole home as all three Panthers broke. Reed then stole home to tie the game.

In the top of the seventh, Allie Sarver walked, Evrley singled and Bowker put down a bunt to score Sarver for the go-ahead run. With one out, Reed hit an RBI ground out to score Evrley.

Laker got the win with seven strikeouts in five innings pitched.

RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 14, CAMP POINT CENTRAL 4: At Camp Point, Devin Vogler and Italee Ford each had three hits in the Rockets’ win.

Vogler was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. She gave Rushville a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first.

After Camp Point tied the game 2-2 in the first, Brynna Swan gave the Rockets a 3-2 lead when her sacrifice fly allowed Vogler to score in the top of the third. By the time the inning was done, Rushville-Industry led 7-2.

Ford struck out four and allowed four runs — two earned — on six hits and two walks in the complete-game win.

MAROA-FORSYTH 15, NEW BERLIN 5 (6 innings): At Forsyth, Maggie Ravenscraft supplied four hits with four RBIs and two runs in the Sangamo Conference win.

Adelyn Simmons and Kelci Kahlher each had three hits, the former finishing with five runs. Danni Hovey struck out 12 in a complete game. She gave up six hits and five unearned runs.

STAUNTON 11, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 1 (5 innings): At Staunton, leadoff hitter Lilly Bandy went a perfect 4-for-4 and scored twice to propel the Bulldogs to a nonconference win.

Kylie Lucykow, Taylor Nolan, Ele Feldmann, Korryn Keehner and Evin Frank all finished with two RBIs apiece. Bandy and Keehner doubled as the Bulldogs improved to 10-3.

Feldmann struck out eight and allowed three hits and four walks in the complete-game win.

PITTSFIELD 13, BEARDSTOWN 0 (5 innings): At Beardstown, Kylynn Maltby and Hallie Lawson had the Tigers’ only hits in a nonconference loss.

GIRLS SOCCER

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 3, ROCHESTER 0: At Rochester, Rylann Law scored two goals and the Titans got all its scoring in the first half to capture a Central State Eight Conference win.

Law gave Glenwood a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute before teammate Makenna Yeager doubled the Titans’ lead with a tally in the 22nd. Law found the back of the net once more in the 27th minute.

Then it was up to the Glenwood defense and goalkeeper Abi Stephens to finish the shutout. The Titans improved to 8-5 (overall, 6-0 in the CS8).

Rochester fell to 8-5-1 (4-3).

WILLIAMSVILLE 9, RIVERTON 0: At Riverton, Calynn Frye scored a hat trick and Makenna Ready and Emile Mikus each had a pair of goals as the Bullets blanked the Hawknadoes in a Sangamo Conference match.

Ready put Williamsville (14-2) on top with two goals in the first nine minutes. Frye scored in the 11th minute before Kendyl Mirabile gave the Bullets a 4-0 lead a minute later. Mikus then had back-to-back goals before Frye closed out the first half with her second.

Claire Corredato and Frye added second-half goals.

Riverton goalkeeper Briannah Walker made 14 saves.

CARLINVILLE 4, PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 0: At Carlinville, Jordyn Loveless scored a hat trick and the Piasa Birds decided to end the game midway through the second half of the South Central Conference match.

Miley Ribble added the Cavaliers’ fourth goal. Savanna Siglock got the shutout victory when the Birds "decided to terminate” the game with 24 minutes, 47 seconds left, according to Carlinville coach Tim Johnson.
