SOFTBALL

ROCHESTER 4, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 2 (9 innings): At SHG, Brooklyn Thompson rallied the Rockets to a Central State Eight Conference win with two pivotal hits in crunch time.

She drove a 2-RBI single to center field to force extras in the seventh inning and cranked out the go-ahead 2-RBI single to right field in the ninth for the win.

Thompson, Raegan Rezba, Bella Harness and Mylie Deatherage each had two hits for the Rockets (15-4 overall, 4-1 CS8). Harness scored twice.

Jaelyn Watts chalked up 16 strikeouts in nine innings. She gave up one earned run on five hits and eight walks.

Kenzie Wieland took the loss in nine innings, yielding two earned runs on 10 hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts.

The contest was resumed from Thursday, April 18 at the bottom of the third with SHG (5-9, 2-3) ahead 1-0.

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 7, NORMAL U-HIGH 6 (8 innings): At Chatham, Hope Gilmore uncorked a walk-off RBI single to bring home Mollie Cascio in the bottom of the eighth inning after the Titans rallied with two home runs in the seventh.

Glenwood was held scoreless until Taryn Griffith belted a grand slam in the seventh and Ava Bobb followed with the game-tying 2-run home run to force extras.

Sophia Feld collected the win for the Titans (17-1) in 4 1/3 innings. She gave up three earned runs on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Kyndal Shively led the Pioneers with two hits, three RBIs and a run.

GILLESPIE 7, CARLINVILLE 0: At Carlinville, Emma Gipson shut out the Cavaliers with nine strikeouts in a key South Central Conference win.

Gipson gave up five hits and three walks in a complete game. She also walked twice and scored a run for the Miners, who improved to 19-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Paxton Reid furnished two hits and two RBIs while Macie Wright had a hit with two RBIs and a run. Ava Parish led off the order with a hit and scored twice. Lauren Bertagnolli had a hit and scored a run.

Hallie Gibson had two hits for the Cavaliers (16-4-1, 5-1). She took the loss with three earned runs allowed on seven hits and six walks with seven strikeouts. Carlinville committed three errors.

STAUNTON 18, HILLSBORO 4 (5 innings): At Staunton, Lilly Bandy homered and finished with two hits, four RBIs and three runs in the South Central Conference win.

Ele Feldmann and Evin Frank each went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.

Samantha Anderson and Korryn Keehner both had two hits and scored twice. Kylie Lucykow and Lilly Troeckler each added a hit with two RBIs and two runs.

Gianna Bianco threw a complete game with four runs allowed on nine hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

ATHENS 3, MANITO MIDWEST CENTRAL 2 (8 innings): At Manito, Kenzie Szoke supplied the go-ahead RBI sacrifice bunt in the top of the eighth inning and Layken Buch added an insurance run with a solo home run to center field for a nonconference win.

Isabel Ingram finished with two hits and collected the win in the circle. She struck out seven in a complete game and surrendered two runs on seven hits and five walks.

NEW BERLIN 16, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 1 (4 innings): At New Berlin, Avery Blackorby went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run in the nonconference win for the Pretzels.

Skylar Green and Carlie Smith each scored three runs. Blackorby picked up the win with one run allowed on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts.

MOUNT ZION 5, PLEASANT PLAINS 3: At Plains, Ella Fink gave up three hits, three walks and one run in four innings to spur the Braves to a nonconference win. She totaled six strikeouts.

Hadley Ryan and Maddie Moore each had RBIs for the Cardinals.

BEARDSTOWN 11, MOUNT STERLING BROWN COUNTY 1 (6 innings): At Beardstown, Vanessa Nunez delivered a hit and four RBIs to catapult the Tigers to a Western Illinois Valley Conference victory.

Lauren Coats had two hits with an RBI and run, including a double. Cami Coates chipped in a hit and scored twice. Perri Herzog provided a double with two RBIs and a run.

Shelby Goodrich tossed a complete game and allowed one unearned run, four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 12, LEWISTOWN 2 (5 innings): At Rushville, Charlee Gerleman homered and scored two runs in the win for the Rockets.

Italee Ford and Devin Vogler each had two hits and combined for five runs. Addy Jones fanned eight in 4 2/3 innings with two unearned runs allowed.

PEKIN 7, LINCOLN 6: At Lincoln, Regan Kutz finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs in the nonconference loss. Kelsey Marten homered and finished with two RBIs
