GIRLS SOCCER

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 2, MORTON 0: At Chatham, Lyla Franke and Rowann Law each scored after intermission to hand coach Jay Lipe his 500th career win.

Lipe has guided the Titans (9-6) to nine state appearances and two state titles, including last season.

Glenwood will seek to claim its fifth straight Central State Eight Conference title with Decatur Eisenhower (Tuesday, April 30) and Southeast (Thursday, May 2) remaining on the schedule.

SOFTBALL

LANPHIER 30, RIVERTON 13 (6 innings): At Riverton, Maylee Payne went 3-for-5 and finished with eight RBIs as the Lions put together two big innings to post a nonconference win.

Lanphier scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and ended the game with 10 runs in the sixth. Payne had a two-run single in the first and an RBI groundout in the fifth. She had five RBIs in the sixth with a three-run inside-the-park home run and a two-run single to account for her eight RBIs.

Lanphier leadoff hitter Tamaih Jefferson finished 2-for-2 with four walks, six runs, three RBIs and six stolen bases. Jefferson had a two-run double in the first. Without a hit, Maya Bennett scored six runs, stole five bases and walked four times as the Lions drew 23 walks, stole 24 bases and took advantage of 12 wild pitches as a team.

Brooklyn Lanham provided the offense for Riverton. Lanham went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and scored four runs with five RBIs. She hit a pair of two-run home runs in the first and fifth innings and added an RBI single in the fourth.

Opal Withers had two hits and an RBI and Raelyn Moore had a hit, two RBIs and scored three runs for Riverton.

GILLESPIE 7, PANA 1 (5 innings): At Gillespie, the Miners plated six runs in the third inning and Emma Gipson was in control in the circle in a rain-shortened South Central Conference game.

With the game tied at one apiece, Macie Wright (2-for-2, two runs) gave Gillespie the lead with an RBI double and Laci Schuckenbrock drove in two more runs with a double. Delaney Taylor (2-for-3, two RBIs) then delivered a run-scoring single and Ava Parish belted a two-run home run to bust the game open in the third.

Gipson allowed three hits and one unearned run with six strikeouts and no walks. Pana scored its run in the first when Kennedy Bowker singled and came home on an error.

Taylor tied the game 1-1 with an RBI single in the second.

PLEASANT PLAINS 12, RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 2 (6 innings): At Pleasant Plains, the Cardinals scored in each inning to produce a nonconference victory.

Lexie Shimkus finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Hadley Ryan had a hit and two RBIs. Jillian Cameron went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for Plains.

Winning pitcher Faith Nestler took command with 10 strikeouts. She allowed four hits and two earned runs with one walk.

Tori Elvidge and Morgan Cowdrey each had a hit, and both ended with an RBI apiece for Lincolnwood.
