Prep roundup: Howell ends Novi's 19-game baseball win streak

Howell ended Novi’s 19-game baseball winning streak Wednesday with a walk-off 5-4 victory.

Novi, the defending state Division 1 champion, erased a 4-0 deficit with a four-run sixth inning. Howell won it in the seventh inning when Brett Parris scored from second base on an infield single by Curt Dell and a resulting error by third baseman Trevor Reed.

The ninth-ranked Wildcats won their final 13 games last season and were 6-0 this season, including a 10-1 rout of Howell on Monday. Howell (3-5) snapped a three-game losing streak in which it was outscored 20-3.

“It was great for our confidence,” Howell coach Matt Hunt said. “We had played some great competition and played some really tight ball games. We just put it all together. The boys were believing in the process.”

Gavin Pejakovich shut out Novi through five innings, as Howell built a 4-0 lead. He allowed three hits before being pulled following back-to-back walks to start the sixth.

“He just mixed it well all day and gave us a chance to win,” Hunt said.

“It was good team baseball,” Hunt said. “We moved runners when we needed to. When adversity hit, we fought through it. We didn’t let it affect us. We kept positive and worked through it.”
