Prep roundup: Hartland relays set three school track and field records vs. Brighton

Hartland loaded up its sprint relay teams with senior Cameron Cheetam, the fastest sprinter in the school’s history, for its track and field meet Tuesday against Brighton.

The result was an assault on the Eagles’ record book, as three relays ran the fastest times ever by Hartland foursomes.

One week earlier, the 800- and 400-meter relay teams broke school records that stood for at least 12 years. Those marks were lowered against Brighton, while the 1,600 relay record set in 2013 was broken.

Ronan Poe, Evan Bryan, James Butzier and Cheetam won the 800 relay in 1:29.77, becoming the first Hartland team to break 1:30. The mark of 1:31.56 stood for a week after the previous record lasted since 1991.

The 400 relay team of Cameron Campbell, Cheetam, Jack Lansing and Bryan won in 43.01 seconds, breaking the record of 43.74 set last week. The mark of 43.84 stood since 2012.

The 1,600 relay team of Bryan, Robert Wisniewski, Carson Cook and Cheetam won in 3:25.62, breaking a time of 3:25.94 that was converted from a hand time by Bryan Condra, Jesse Neal, Will Jackson and Josh Duggan from 2013.

Cheetam, who holds the school records in the 100, 200 and 400, didn’t run an open event against Brighton.

Brighton won the meet by a 77-60 score.
