Prep roundup: Hartland rallies to extend lengthy softball win streak vs. Brighton

Sophomore pitcher Olivia Forrest had to pull extra duty Wednesday to keep Hartland’s lengthy softball winning streak against Brighton intact.

She wasn’t scheduled to pitch in the second game after throwing a six-inning one-hitter in a 10-0 victory, but came on in relief in the second inning to quell a Brighton rally in a 16-6 victory.

Brighton (7-13) scored six runs in the top of the second to take a 6-4 lead when Forrest entered the game with one out. She shut down the Bulldogs from there, allowing no hits and no walks in 4⅔ innings.

In the opener, Forrest struck out six and didn’t issue a walk in a six-inning game for her sixth shutout in 10 starts. She has a 1.02 earned run average while allowing opponents a .191 batting average.

Two-run singles by Gracyn Houck and Samantha Janssen sparked Brighton’s six-run second. Kate McIntyre put Hartland ahead to stay, 7-6, with a two-run single in the third. McIntyre was 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the second game.

Sadie Malik went 6-for-8 with three doubles and three RBIs in the twin bill for the Eagles (11-7-1), who have beaten Brighton 23 straight times since losing 1-0 on May 2, 2012.

Skylar Spisz was 3-for-4 with a double and triple, while Kaitlyn Brennan had two doubles in the opener for Hartland.

Plymouth 6, Howell 1

Howell 4, Plymouth 2

Howell avoided the sweep by scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning after falling behind 2-0 in the nightcap.

A two-run single by Amelia Elsey put the Highlanders up 3-2. Ava Bunting and Amelia Ott also had run-scoring singles in the seventh. Gianna Gentile pitched two no-hit shutout innings of relief.

In the first game, Leighton Scott went 3-for-4 for Howell (8-7-1).

Pinckney 20, Ann Arbor Huron 3

CeCe Thorington drove in three runs and stole three bases, extending her streak of consecutive steals to 111, which ranks third on the MHSAA records list. Pinckney stole 16 bases as a team and is 67-for-67 collectively this season.

Mallory Dickey drove in three runs for the Pirates (8-5).

Baseball

Howell 17, Plymouth 3

Howell (7-9) entered the final inning trailing 3-2 and put up 15 runs after the lead-off batter grounded out to win in a rout.

Daniel Hampton had a two-run homer to break a 3-3 tie. JT Thomas was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Brett Parris drove in three runs.

Pinckney 27, Ypsilanti 0

Freshman Jax Raymond struck out eight of the nine batters he faced in a three-inning blowout. He also went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Carson Emery drove in four runs and Nolan Carruthers was 4-for-4 for the Pirates (8-7-1), who outscored Ypsilanti 57-0 in three games this week.

Girls lacrosse

Brighton 17, Northville 6

Georgia Gill scored six goals and two assists, Cece Mainhardt had four goals and five assists, and Ella Toth had four goals to lead Brighton.

Isabella Orton scored twice for the Bulldogs.

Ann Arbor Huron 13, Howell 11

Sophia Balla and Ava Deyo each scored three goals, while Janie Mitter scored twice for Howell.

Soccer

Pinckney 8, Jackson 0

Val Graves had three goals and two assists, while Zaryah Griffin had three goals.

Alexis Altizer and Kinley Mays scored Pinckney’s other goals.

Boys lacrosse

Hartland 29, Belleville 0

Jacob Ross scored seven goals and one assist, Jake Lewis four goals and three assists, and Drew Lockwood three goals and four assists.

Dylan Ayotte, Clayton Penzien, David Bulloch, Drew Schaecher and Gage Jackovich scored twice.

Hartland (9-2) has outscored Belleville 167-1 in six meetings.

Brighton 16, Northville 6

Lukas Aurandt and Joe Libler scored four goals each for Brighton (10-3).
