Prep roundup: Hartland, Brighton set up showdown for KLAA West boys lacrosse title

Hartland took care of one Livingston County rival Monday in preparation for a boys lacrosse matchup with its biggest rival, winning 17-2 over Howell.

Drew Lockwood scored seven goals and two assists to lead the Eagles (11-2), who will host Brighton at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will win the KLAA West championship and host the KLAA title game against the East winner at 7 p.m. Monday.

Dylan Ayotte had four goals and one assist, while Jake Lewis had three goals and one assist.

Clayton Penzien, Gage Jackovich and Connor Gilbert scored Hartland’s other goals.

Brighton 19, Novi 1

Brighton also had a one-sided victory in its final tune-up for the Hartland game, as 12 different players scored goals for the Bulldogs.

Lukas Aurandt and Kyle Kammer each had three goals and two assists for Brighton (11-3).

Baseball

Tecumseh 5, Pinckney 1

Pinckney 4, Tecumseh 2

By winning the second game, Pinckney stayed in the hunt for the SEC White championship. The Pirates are 7-3 in the division with four games remaining. Tecumseh and Adrian are tied for first at 8-2.

Owen Zylka got the victory in the nightcap, allowing six hits and one walk in seven innings while fanning six. Evan McGlothin was 2-for-3 in the first game for Pinckney.

Softball

Brighton 12, Westland John Glenn 2

Brighton came back in both games to win going away. The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the third inning in the first game and 2-0 going into the bottom of the first in the nightcap.

Anna Minnick drove in three runs, Samantha Janssen was 3-for-4 and Belle Sixbery struck out 11 batters in six innings in the opener for Brighton (10-13). Maggie McKaig drove in four runs in the second game.

Fowlerville 16, Lansing Eastern 1

McKayla Fletcher had a double and triple, Kiely Davis was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Tori Briggs struck out eight of the 12 batters she faced in the first game for Fowlerville (14-5-1).

In the second game, Tommi Kleinschmidt had a home run and double, Tara Peterson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Fletcher drove in three runs.

Tecumseh 12, Pinckney 11

Tecumseh scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off victory in the first game.

Mackenzie Burns was 4-for-4 with a home run, double and five RBIs for Pinckney in the opener. CeCe Thorington was 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the first game.

Canton 8, Howell 0

Canton 5, Howell 1

Canton’s Emma Grau threw a perfect game in the opener, striking out 16 of the 21 batters she faced. Grau pitched the final four innings of the nightcap, fanning 11 of 13 batters and allowing one hit.

Golf

North Star Bank

Brighton shot 312 to finish second by one stroke to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood at Plum Hollow Country Club.

Howell was fifth with a 318 and Hartland’s B team was 14th with a 331.

Brighton’s Jacob Daavettila took second individually with a 72. Brighton’s Riley Morton and Howell’s Gavin Hill tied for 10th with 77s. Hartland’s Wyatt Johnson tied for 16th with a 78.

Jim Sander Memorial

Hartland finished second with a 314, three shots behind South Lyon East, at Prestwick Village Golf Club.

Hartland senior Keller King tied for first with a 75. Aidan Oake tied for eighth with a 78 and Brady Betteley tied for 12th with a 79 for the Eagles.
