Prep roundup: Double play in 8th secures wild softball win for Fowlerville
With Eaton Rapids threatening to win the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, Fowlerville turned a game-ending double play to secure an 11-10 victory Thursday in the first game of a softball doubleheader.
The second game finished in a 10-10 tie after seven innings, halted by darkness.
In the first game, Fowlerville scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take an 11-8 lead. Eaton Rapids scored twice and had runners on second and third when a ball hit back to pitcher Tori Briggs resulted in a double play.
Briggs threw home to catcher Avery Borg, who tagged a runner out, then threw to first baseman Meadow Browne to end the game.
Borg homered and Angelle Haan was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Fowlerville.
In the second game, Fowlerville rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. The Gladiators (10-5-1) were down 10-2 when they recorded their second out of the inning. A three-run homer by Tommi Kleinschmidt was the key blow in the seventh. Tara Peterson scored the tying run on a passed ball.
Pinckney 10, Wixom St. Catherine 2
Pinckney senior CeCe Thorington was 4-for-5 with two triples and a double, while Violet McWhinnie was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Abby Rauser pitched all seven innings for the Pirates, striking out nine.

Pierce Pariseau pitched four innings of one-hit shutout relief in the second game for Fowlerville (6-12). Mikey Hatfield drove in two runs and Griffin Gonzalez scored three.
Williamston 6, Howell 5
Williamston 6, Howell 5
JT Thomas homered in each game for Howell (7-11). Williamston scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning in each game to break 5-5 ties.

Brighton 2, Novi 1
Brighton kept itself in the KLAA West championship hunt when Maya Bjedov scored off a corner kick by Olivia Sebestyen with eight minutes left.
Anna VanKannel scored Brighton’s first goal. The Bulldogs are 6-3-2 in the KLAA West, six points (the equivalent of two victories) behind first-place Hartland. Brighton will host Hartland at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sloan Field.

Cranbrook-Kingswood 16, Brighton 6
Owen Blush scored three goals for Brighton.
Rugby
Brighton 64, Washtenaw 19
Cole Birecki scored 15 points and Sebastian Melchor 10 for Brighton.
Tennis
Brighton 9, Dearborn 0
Gianna Tabacchi, Brighton’s No. 4 singles player, won two 6-0 sets to improve to 13-1 this season.
