Power went out twice Tuesday in Alliance area. Here's why

ALLIANCE ‒ Power went out twice Tuesday night in the Alliance area.

Here's why:

In the first incident, Alliance Safety-Service Director Mike Dreger said, FirstEnergy's Ohio Edison had an insulator fail at 9:16 p.m., knocking electricity out for roughly 8,000 customers. The power was restored by 10:26 p.m.

Dreger said the second outage started at 11:30 p.m. when a substation blew fuses, knocking out power to more than 4,000 customers. The power was restored around 12:46 a.m. Wednesday. He said some customers experienced both outages, which hit properties in Alliance and the surrounding communities.

"We've had more than a couple of calls from individuals wanting to know why their power was out last night in Alliance," Dreger said Wednesday afternoon in an email.
