Potential new world record set in Portugal for largest wave ever surfed. Can you guess how big

NAZARÉ (Reuters) - Sebastian Steudtner surfed possibly the biggest wave ever in Nazaré, Portugal, earlier in the 2024 season.

The German surfed a monster wave that was measured at 28.57m (93.73ft) utilizing state-of-the-art drone technology.

If officially ratified later this year, the wave will surpass Steudtner's current world record of 26.21m (86.4ft) which he set at Nazaré in 2020.

A drone prototype was used for quick and precise wave measurement for the first time during the huge swell and Steudtner was also using new surfboard technology which enables him to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, compared with 80 km/h which he was able to reach previously.
