Portage Sheriff's fishing derby set May 18

Portage County Sheriff's Office plans its annual, free Youth Fishing Derby from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 18 at Ravenna Moose Lodge, 5727 State Route 14. Registration will run 11 to 11:30 a.m. Rain date is May 19.

The event is for youths ages 16 and younger. Participants should bring their own tackle. A limited number of poles and bait will be available. Trophies will be given for the largest and smallest catches, along with other prizes.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. K-9 demonstrations will start at 1:15 p.m.

Funds for the event were donated by the Kent chapter of Whitetails Unlimited.
