RAVENNA — A year ago, Streetsboro softball won just three games.

In just the first week of the 2024 season, the Rockets already have two wins, following Thursday's 10-0 victory at Ravenna.

"It's just execution today, just going out playing the game, having some fun," Rockets coach LeRoy Moore said. "We win tomorrow, we've equaled last year's wins in the first week."

Audriana Wert tossed a one-hit shutout in her first start and also had a 2-RBI double just over the leaping first baseman as part of Streetsboro's five-run top of the third.

Hailey Miller scorched three line-drive hits to left — two singles and a double — while T'Lanee Boyett and Khloe Cutright had a single and a double apiece for the Rockets (2-1, 1-1 Metro Athletic Conference).

Rootstown 9, Painesville 2

Rootstown ace Shelbie Krieger tossed a two-hitter against Painesville, striking out 15.

Shelbie Krieger had a banner day for Rootstown.

On the mound, Krieger tossed a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts.

At the plate, the Rovers senior went 3 for 3 with a homer and a triple.

Boston Silveus and Reise Thomas also bashed homers for Rootstown while Abby White went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Waterloo 4, Mineral Ridge 2

Kristlyn Kehrer picked up her first varsity win on the mound, striking out eight. The freshman also had a pair of singles for the Vikings.

Morgan Sweitzer added a 2-run double for Waterloo (1-1, 1-1 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier), while Bayley English and Regan Heilman added singles.

Field 11, Cloverleaf 1

The Falcons broke open Thursday's MAC game with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning.

That was plenty for Field pitcher Maddie Burge, who yielded a single run and three hits to pick up her second win of the season.

In addition to catching Burge, Averi Weis singled, doubled and drove in three. Kailyn Gressman also singled and doubled, driving in two. McKayla Miller added a pair of singles while freshman Nyla Hindel ended Thursday's game early with a 2-run double in the fifth.

Garfield 18, Campbell Memorial 1

Lizzy Moore tossed a three-hitter and tallied a single, double, two RBIs and three runs at the plate for the G-Men (2-0, 2-0 MVAC Grey Tier).

Kolby Fresch singled and tripled, driving home two and scoring twice, while Maddy Wilson doubled and scored three runs. Olivia Zicari tacked on two singles, a triple, two runs and three RBIs.

Baseball

Field 7, Woodridge 6

The Falcons broke open a tie ballgame with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, then held on in the seventh for a key Metro Athletic Conference win.

Deegan Yutzy came on to pitch in the fourth and ensured Field's lead held up. Grady Eader and Kayden Smith each doubled and drove in two runs while Caden Kolesar added a single and an RBI.

Garfield 10, Campbell Memorial 0

Aidan Hill tossed a shutout for the G-Men, allowing just two hits and striking out eight while walking a single batter.

Leo Grandizio led Garfield at the plate with a single, double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Brock Pesicek reached base in all three of his plate appearances with a single, double and walk.

Streetsboro 18, Coventry 3

The Rockets exploded for 20 hits, with Scott Wilson going 4 for 5 and Jasper Atkin, Jayden Coffie and Jack Pincoe adding three hits apiece.

Norton 11, Ravenna 1

Justin Fuller doubled, tripled and drove in a pair of runs for the Panthers. Caiden Shockey also had multiple hits for Norton, which scored in all five innings Thursday.

Rylan Eldredge, James Evans and Alex Hall all singled for Ravenna.
