Portage HS scores | April 24: Whitney Holmes gem lifts Ravenna softball to victory

Whitney Holmes tossed a no-hitter as Ravenna softball picked up a 15-0 win over Akron Garfield.

Holmes tallied 11 strikeouts in her five innings of work.

Waterloo 24, Springfield 9

The Vikings had 19 hits to earn a sweep of the Tigers, led by Miranda Long's homer, two singles and six RBIs.

Bayley English additionally starred for Waterloo (4-6, 4-5 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier), going 4 for 4 with two singles, two doubles and four RBIs, while Tayrn Brown added a double, two singles and four runs. Morgan Sweitzer had two singles and three RBIs while Kristlyn Kehrer and Kamryn Lynn had a double and two singles apiece.

Aurora 19, Roosevelt 2

McKennah Metzger homered once again and combined with Sophie Retton to hold the Rough Riders in check on the mound.

Metzger struck out six over her three innings, with her lone runs surrendered coming on a 2-run homer from Avery Gates.

Retton added two perfect innings in relief.

Lailah Bohanan, Julia Miller and Rayna Unverferth drove in three runs apiece for the Greenmen (14-0, 8-0 Suburban American), who had nine players record at least one RBI and 10 players notch a hit in the win.

Baseball

Roosevelt 10, Barberton 3

Teddy Maccarone finished the job Wednesday in a game that was mostly played Tuesday (and delayed due to rain and darkness), tossing two scoreless innings of relief. He also had a double and drove in two runs at the plate.

The Rough Riders (7-7, 3-4 Suburban American) had no shortage of sparks in their lineup, with Tristyn Page and Scottie Spears tripling and driving in two runs apiece, and Jon Jon Smith going 2 for 2 with a double, two walks and two RBIs.
