Portage HS scores | April 18: Aurora and Field softball, Field baseball stay undefeated

Field softball stayed undefeated with an 8-5 victory at Twinsburg Thursday.

Maddie Burge moved to 8-0 by tossing several shutout innings. Delilah Rahe homered for the Falcons (9-0), who also got a double and a single from Lilli Sutkowy and two singles from Jessica Pollard.

Aurora 8, Copley 0

The Greenmen also remained undefeated, scoring three runs apiece in the first and fourth innings in a game that began Wednesday and ended Thursday after a rain delay.

McKennah Metzger hit a 3-run homer and tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out 12.

Sophie Schecterman had a team-leading three hits, in four at-bats, while Lailah Bohanan and Sophie Petrash added multiple hits apiece for Aurora (9-0, 5-0 Suburban American).

Mogadore 6, Southeast 4

The Wildcats picked up their third Portage Trail Conference win of the week.

Knotted at four in the later innings, Mogadore (9-2, 3-0) scored the final two runs of the ballgame.

Katie Gardner got the win, tossing a complete game against a loaded Southeast lineup.

Streetsboro 11, Cuyahoga Heights 5

The Rockets have now doubled their win total from a year ago.

Olivia Knepper led Streetsboro (6-7) at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, two singles and three RBIs. T'Lanee Boyett and Cortney Evert also doubled, with Evert driving in two runs, while Dani LaFlame had two singles for the Rockets.

Baseball

Southeast 10, Waterloo 0

Bradee Blankenship and Joe Sharish knocked in three runs apiece to lead the way for the Pirates. James Pritts reached in all three of his plate appearances, singling, tripling and crossing home plate three times.

Sharish also tossed a two-hit shutout, scattering two hits and a single free pass.

Aric May and Vincent Mori each singled for the Vikings.

Streetsboro 16, Coventry 6

Down 4-3 entering the bottom of the third, the Rockets ran away by scoring multiple runs in each of their last four turns at the plate.

Jayden Coffie doubled twice and walked twice, scoring three runs and driving in two. Braden Craft also scored three runs for Streetsboro, singling, doubling and drawing a walk. Scott Wilson reached in all four of his plate appearances, with two singles, two walks and four runs scored.

Garfield 13, Struthers 2

The G-Men scored in every inning, capped by a 5-run top of the sixth.

Aidan Hill led Garfield at the plate, going 4 for 5 with four RBIs, while Eric Geddes doubled, singled, scored two runs and drove in three. Alex Carter starred on the mound, striking out nine while allowing just two runs in six innings, and at the plate, where he went 2 for 3 with two runs.

Field 9, Woodridge 2

Landon Homan and Deegan Yutzy combined to keep the Bulldogs in check as the Falcons (9-0, 8-0 Metro Athletic Conference) swept the season series.

Grady Eader doubled twice and singled while Sam Confer singled twice and doubled to lead the Field lineup. Kayden Smith added a homer for the Falcons.

Mogadore 6, Rootstown 2

The Wildcats swept the season series against the Rovers behind a gem from Jude Thiry (7 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 10 K, BB).

Devin Graham drove in a team-high three runs, including a 2-RBI double deep over the left fielder and a successful squeeze bunt.

Tony Karp homered for Rootstown.

Tennis

Ravenna 3, Coventry 2

The Ravens' Lily Schofield and Derick Skilton stepped up for the decisive win at first doubles, 6-2, 6-3. Trenton Turney (third singles) and Jason Hawkins/Emily Scibelli (second doubles) added wins by default for Ravenna.
