Popular ice cream shop from Ohio to open locations in Fort Worth, Arlington area

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream, an Ohio-based franchise often ranked among the nation’s top 10, is continuing its Texas expansion, opening new shops in Southlake and Arlington.

The Southlake store, 2645 E. Southlake Blvd., will open first, following five locations already open in Denton and Collin counties.

Handel’s was founded in 1945 by Alice Handel of Youngstown, Ohio. The shops make 48 flavors in-house daily, including banana-cream pie, graham-cracker chocolate and chocolate-pecan.

The shops also make shakes, splits and concretes called “Hurricanes.”

Handel’s also offers sorbets, sherbets, ices and a limited selection of plant-based almond- or coconut-milk flavors.

The nearest current store is at 2717 Cross Timbers Road, Flower Mound.
