Poor weather causes delays at regional track and field meets
Poor weather is causing major issues across the state for regional track and field meets.
The second day of the Region 1-6A meet on Saturday, which includes athletes from El Paso, did not take place Saturday and was postponed until Monday at the University of Texas-Arlington.
Friday's first day of competition, which included field events and the 3,200 meters, was completed. The Region I-4A and Region I-5A meets in Lubbock were delayed for El Paso athletes due to poor weather also on Saturday.
On Friday, three El Paso athletes qualified for state in Austin in early May.
Class 6A
Eastwood's Adelynn Rodriguez finished third in the 3,200 meters at the Region I-6A meet in Arlington and earned the wild card spot to the state meet. She finished the meet in 10 minutes, 33.32 seconds. "It feels amazing to get to state because our region is so tough. I have had a good track and field season, I've been running faster times. I just wanted to run my race and do the best I could. I felt confident entering the race."
Eastwood's Danny Torres is headed to state after a third place showing in the 3,200 meters at the Region 1-6A meet. He too earned the wild card spot. His time was 9:00.99. "I felt good in the race and I was confident coming into the race. It's an honor making state."
Class 5A
El Paso High's Miles Westbrook is headed to state after finishing second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:19.67.
