'Pool Boy' Giancarlo Granda Just Dropped A Book About His Sex Scandal

Hulu’s newest documentary has what you might call the holy trinity of salacious content: a pool boy, cuckolding, and sex scandal involving the president of a Christian university and a U.S. President.
God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty, which premieres on Nov. 1, brings to light the story of a young man's affair with a prominent Christian couple, Becki and Jerry Falwell Jr.
And based on the trailer, this will be a juicy one. In fact, the pool boy in question, Giancarlo Granda, opens the trailer with a quote that was wild enough to make me add this doc’s release date to my Google Calendar: “If I would’ve known that accepting this woman’s invitation to go back to her hotel room would’ve led to a scandal involving the president of the largest Christian university in the world and the president of the United States, I would have walked away and just enjoyed my private life,” he says.
But first, you'll probably want to know more about this "pool boy," Giancarlo Granda. Here's everything to know about him and the scandal, and where he is now.
Who is Giancarlo Granda?
Giancarlo is the now 31-year-old former pool boy who was allegedly sexually involved with Becki and Jerry Falwell. He was 20 when he met the religious power couple. According to his LinkedIn, he is a real estate operations professional and a 2020 graduate of Georgetown University.
Giancarlo is the owner of Miami Hostel and a managing member of Alton Hostel, LLC. He is also bilingual, according to his page, speaking both English and Spanish.
Who are Becki and Jerry Falwell?
Jerry is an attorney and prominent Evangelical Christian. He became the president of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia after his father Jerry Falwell Sr. died in 2007. He stepped down from his position in August 2020 after the scandal.
Jerry and Becki met in 1987, and the pair have three children. But they met when she was just 13, and Jerry was a friend of Becki’s older sister, according to Vanity Fair. The pair went on their first date when he was 23, and she was 18, and they fell in love. She dropped out of Liberty where she had been attending school to work as a waitress.
Becki was a stay-at-home mom who raised the couple’s three children for 20 years, but was excited by the opportunity to be the First Lady of the college when Jerry took over, according to Vanity Fair. Becki says her loneliness and lack of a “real college life” would later lead to the affair.
Becki did have some political sway in her own right, however. She served on an advisory board of Women for Trump, and spoke alongside Jerry and President Donald Trump at the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2019, according to Reuters.
Also of note: Falwell was not really crushing it as Liberty’s president before the sex scandal blew up. A 2019 Politico investigation called the school a “dictatorship” run through fear of Falwell. The school also sold Donald Trump merch, and Falwell came under more scrutiny when he allegedly blocked students from publishing columns critical of the then president, according to the investigation.
How did Giancarlo meet the Falwells?
Giancarlo told Reuters he was 20 when he met Jerry and Becki in March 2012. He was working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel when he noticed Becki snapping photos of him.
When he spoke to her, according to The Daily Beast, she allegedly said: “Don’t waste your time with the younger ones. They don’t know what they’re doing.” Becki then asked Giancarlo to return to her hotel room with her to have sex while her husband watched. He said yes.
What did he do with the Falwells?
Giancarlo showed Reuters emails and text messages that showed the sexual nature of the relationship.
“Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room,” Granda told the publication. He said they would meet up multiple times a year. Jerry also allegedly filmed them having sex.
The Falwells denied that Jerry was involved.
While Becki has spoken openly about her affair with Giancarlo, the couple maintains that Jerry was not present, according to Vanity Fair.
Where is he now?
Besides his involvement in the documentary, Giancarlo is publishing a book about the experience called, Off The Deep End: Jerry and Becki Falwell and the Collapse of an Evangelical Dynasty, which drops on the same day as the documentary. And according to his LinkedIn, he is working in real estate and is also an owner of Miami Hostel and managing member of Alton Hostel, LLC.
Back in 2020, he also graduated from Georgetown University with a master's degree in real estate finance and development.
