Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Jan. 22)

Several of Miami-Dade County’s top athletes kept delivering in big games in multiple winter sports this past week as the postseason nears.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Jan. 26, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Christian Reid, Mater Lakes, boys’ basketball: Reid scored 22 points to lead the Bears to a 65-58 over Riviera Prep in a matchup of state title contenders.

Shanaii Gamble, Somerset Silver Palms, girls’ basketball: Gamble had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Stallions to a 71-62 win over Miami High.

Matthew Mairena, Palmetto, boys’ basketball: Mairena scored 28 points and had six rebounds to help the Panthers score a key district win over South Dade.

Cordell White, South Dade, boys’ wrestling: White scored three quick pins at 160 pounds including two in under a minute to help the Bucs win their fifth state Duals championship this weekend in Kissimmee.

Sienna Aviles, Lourdes, girls’ soccer: Aviles scored the game-winning goal in the Bobcats’ 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Archbishop McCarthy.
