Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 9)

More excellent performances by top Miami-Dade County athletes highlighted this week’s action as the fall sports season draws closer to the playoffs.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 13, around 10 p.m.

Xavier Irvin, Booker T. Washington, football: Irvin intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble to lead the Tornadoes to an impressive 41-23 victory over Miami Norland.

Joshua Ruiz, Belen, boys’ cross-country: Ruiz ran a season-best time of 15:16 to lead the Wolverines to the championship of the prestigious Pre-State Invitational at Tallahassee.

Gaby Arroyo, Westminster Christian, volleyball: Arroyo totaled 42 kills and scored a 37 percent hitting percentage as well as surpassing a 2.6 in serve-receive as the Warriors won all five matches in 2-0 sweeps to win the Westminster Christian Invitational.

Agatha C. Gonzalez, Ferguson, volleyball: Gonzalez, who is averaging over 12 kills per match, led the Falcons to their second consecutive GMAC championship with wins over Palmetto, Southwest and Miami High.

Andres Atrio, Columbus, boys’ golf: Atrio shot a 3-under par 69 followed by a 2-under par 70 to lead the Explorers, who became the first Miami-Dade County team to win the QDOBA Tournament of Champions classic.
