Poll: Which Broward high school girls’ volleyball player is your Player of the Year?

The 2022 high school volleyball season featured many standout players and performances once again in Broward County.

The Miami Herald recently published its All-Broward volleyball team as well as its Players and Coaches of the Year.

This week, the Herald is asking you to vote on who you think was the best overall of those players this season.

Below is a look at the players who earned first team honors this season. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Monday, Jan. 9, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates:

Zy’Aire Barr, St. Thomas Aquinas: Barr, a senior outside hitter, averaged 9.4 receptions per match and finished with 192 kills, 27 aces and 114 digs to lead the Raiders to the Class 6A state semifinals.

Zori Brown, St. Thomas Aquinas: Brown, a sophomore outside hitter, played a key role with 125 kills and 115 digs in turning things around for the Raiders after an 8-12 start to the season.

Alexandra Bruno, Coral Springs Charter: Bruno, a senior outside hitter, led the Panthers to the Class 4A regional quarterfinals with 363 kills, 34 aces and 123 digs.

Camryn Cala, Western: Cala, a senior outside hitter, was pivotal in leading the Wildcats to the Region 4-7A quarterfinals.

Orian Drore, Cypress Bay: Drore, a junior libero, was one of the county’s best defensive specialists and helped the Lightning advance to the Region 4-7A semifinals.

Mia Gold, Pine Crest: Only a freshman, Gold was one of the most dominant outside hitters in the county and finished with 345 kills, 38 aces and 148 digs.

Emma Gulaskey, Chaminade-Madonna: Gulaskey, a senior outside hitter, led the Lions to the Class 3A regional semifinals with 231 kills, 278 digs and 132 service points.

Celimar Hoyos, Archbishop McCarthy: Hoyos, a versatile senior outside hitter and libero, led the Mavericks all season at both ends of the court with 185 kills, 248 digs and an average of 14.9 receptions per match.

Elena Lam, South Plantation: Lam, a sophomore outside hitter, totaled 317 kills, 209 receptions, 69 assists and 300 digs to lead the Paladins to the Class 6A regional semifinals.

Allison Natt, Pine Crest: A sophomore libero, Natt led the Panthers to the Region 4-4A quarterfinals with 297 digs, 69 assists, 39 aces and averaged 17.9 receptions per match.

Emily Navarro, Calvary Christian: A senior setter, Navarro paced the Eagles to a district title and the Region 4-4A semifinals with 587 assists, 186 digs and 70 kills.

Emma O’Keefe, Cardinal Gibbons: O’Keefe, a junior middle hitter, dominated up front for the Chiefs and finished with 141 kills, 54 blocks and 31 digs.

Mikayla Porter, St. Thomas Aquinas: Porter, a sophomore setter and outside hitter, finished with 163 kills, 43 aces, 134 digs and 233 assists to lead the Raiders to another BCAA Big 8 and district titles and a state semifinals berth.

Sofia Silva, Chaminade-Madonna: Silva, a senior outside hitter, totaled 218 kills, 273 digs, 194 service points and 36 aces to lead the Lions to a 20-win season and the Region 4-3A semifinals.

Teyhlor Thomas, Cardinal Gibbons: Thomas, a junior middle hitter, totaled 108 kills, 63 blocks and 33 digs to help the Chiefs advance to the Region 4-4A semifinals.

Sydney Van Cott, St. Thomas Aquinas: Van Cott, a junior outside hitter, ended the year with 169 kills and 27 blocks as she made the Raiders one of the strongest in the state again.

Natalie Villalon, Cooper City: Villalon, a senior outside hitter, totaled 194 kills, 156 digs, 156 assists and 56 aces to lead her squad to the regional playoffs.
