Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (March 5)

Broward County’s top athletes continue to impress as the boys’ basketball and wrestling reached the conclusions of their seasons and multiple spring sports moved into their second week.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 9, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Tynan Becker, Sagemont, boys’ basketball: Becker scored 25 points, and shot 6 of 13 from 3-point range to lead the Lions to a 67-66 win over three-time defending state champion Orlando Christian Prep. It was Sagemont’s first state title since 2014 and third overall.

Kendrick Hodge, Somerset Academy, boys’ wrestling: Hodge repeated as a state champion, winning the 160-pound weight class and helping the Panthers secure a state runner-up finish in Class 1A.

Gabriela Caro, Stoneman Douglas, girls’ wrestling: Caro completed her season unbeaten and with the state championship in the 125-pound weight class this weekend in Kissimmee.

Daniel Ortega, Western, baseball: Ortega went 2 for 4 with a grand slam, a double and five RBI to lead the Wildcats to an 8-3 win over Flanagan.
