Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 9)

More great performances by Broward County athletes highlighted this week’s action as the fall sports season draws closer to the playoffs.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 13, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

David Vadala, American Heritage, football: Vadala blocked a punt, returned an interception for a touchdown and totaled seven tackles including one for loss in the Patriots’ 42-18 win over Davie Western.

American Heritage seniors pave way for dominant win over Western

Randy Phillips, South Broward, football: Phillips completed 22 of 28 passes for 365 yards, three touchdowns and one interception to lead the Bulldogs to a 30-26 win over West Broward.

Rafaella Araujo, University School, girls’ swimming and diving: Araujo won the 100 breaststroke and was on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to lead the Sharks to a win over American Heritage.

Reggie Heywood, Calvary Christian, football: Heywood ran for over 200 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 47-21 win over Somerset Academy.

Anthony Herrera, St. Thomas Aquinas, boys’ cross-country: Herrera ran a time of 16 minutes even to win the individual title of the BCAA championship meet.
