Political Notebook: A Boonsboro election, a chance to meet candidates, more endorsements

Boonsboro municipal candidates look familiar

As all of Maryland votes in the primaries May 14, voters in Boonsboro also will be voting for mayor and two open council seats.

But that task will be easy for them, as the incumbents are running unopposed.

Terms for Mayor Howard Long and council members Marilee Kerns and Ray Hanson are expiring, but all are running for re-election, according to Interim Town Manager Kim Miller.

Boonsboro has five council members and an assistant mayor who serve with staggered terms. Terms for Assistant Mayor Anthony Nally and council members Terri Holllingshead, Eric Kitchen and Ricky Weaver expire in 2026.

Boonsboro's municipal election will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Eugene C. Smith Community Center, 37 Park Drive. Absentee ballots may be requested at Town Hall and must be returned by May 7.

Meet the candidates with the Republican Central Committee

The Washington County Republican Central Committee will host a Candidate Meet and Greet from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the east pavilion of Pangborn Park, 591 Pangborn Blvd., Hagerstown. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided.

Endorsements pile up in 6th District races

Several candidates vying to represent the 6th District in the U.S. House of Representatives recently announced endorsements in their primary races:

  • Democrat April McClain Delaney, wife of former U.S. Rep. John Delaney, D-6th; was endorsed by former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-5th; and U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-8th.

  • Democrat Joe Vogel was endorsed by UNITE HERE Local 7, a union representing hotel, gaming and food service workers throughout Maryland; and by several members of Congress from other states

  • Republican Neil Parrott announced endorsements from the Conservative Political Action Coalition and the Family Research Council

Hagerstown Mayor Tekesha Martinez, one of 11 Democrats running for the 6th District nomination in the primary race, announced that she has raised more than half a million dollars from 25,506 individual contributors. That's more, her campaign says, than any other Democratic candidate in the race has raised from small contributions.

The 6th District includes all of Washington County.
