Police: Vandal paints 'Free Gaza' on sidewalk at U.S. Rep. Carter's office in Georgetown

Police are trying to find the person who threw red paint at the front door of U.S. Rep. John Carter's office in Georgetown and also spraypainted "Free Gaza" on the sidewalk.

Officers were notified at 8:47 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a possible burglary of the building at 4411 Interstate 35, Suite 115, according to a news release from Georgetown police.

"Information was received that someone had vandalized the front door of the office by throwing what appeared to be red paint on the door, building, and sidewalk," it said. "Additionally, the phrase 'Free Gaza' appeared to have been spray painted on the sidewalk in red paint."

A representative from Carter's office estimated the cost of cleaning up the damages to be around $2,000, the release said.

The person responsible can be charged with criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor if the amount of loss is $750 or more but less than $2,500, police said.
