Police suspect medical emergency caused Wednesday crash in Hillsdale

HILLSDALE — The Hillsdale City Police Department is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 15.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Carleton Road and Moore Road, in front of the Meijer store, with the Hillsdale City Fire Department and paramedics.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 65-year-old Hillsdale man, possibly suffering from a medical emergency, crashed into a guardrail in the area.

Detective Brad Martin said the crash did not appear to involve a second vehicle and, that as of Thursday morning, the man remained in critical condition. Martin did not release his identity.

"Lifesaving measures were performed by officers on the scene and the fire department," Martin said.

Carleton Road was closed for several hours while law enforcement investigated the crash.
