Police: No foul play suspected in death of Christian singer Mandisa

Tennessee police said no foul play is suspected regarding the death of Christian singer and American Idol alum Mandisa, who was found dead at her home in the Nashville metro area Friday.

Mandisa, born in California as Mandisa Lynn Hundley, was 47 years old.

A spokesperson for the Franklin Police Department in Tennessee did not provide a cause of death Monday, but he said Hundley was identified by a medical examiner.

"At this time, there is no indication the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity," police spokesperson Max Winitz said. "The Franklin Police Department send its condolences to Hundley's family, friends, and fans."

The Media Collective, the agency that represented Hundley, confirmed Friday that she had died. In a statement, the agency said it did not know the cause of her death.

Who was Mandisa?

Mandisa was a Christian singer who competed on "American Idol" in 2005 in Chicago and finished in the final nine.

Hundley released her first album, "True Beauty" in July 2007, debuting on the Top Christian Album charts with her first single, "Only the World."

She also won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for "Overcomer" at the 56th Grammy Awards in 2014.

Where was Mandisa from?

After growing up in Citrus Heights, California, Hundley attended Fisk University in Nashville and was a member of the famed Fisk University Jubilee singers. She graduated from Fisk in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in music, according to the university.
