Teen killed, another person injured in shooting near Blue Springs church

Update: Police said in an update Sunday that the victim was a 15-year-old teenage boy.

A teenager was killed in a shooting Saturday night in Blue Springs, police said. One other person was also wounded.

Officers responded around 6:40 p.m. to the 600 block of Northeast Jefferson Street where they found a 15-year-old boy dead, Jennifer Brady, a spokeswoman for the Blue Springs Police Department, said in a statement. Another man, who was injured, was taken to a hospital, Brady said.

The shooting, police said, is not related to the nearby Church of the Resurrection. Brady said police don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
