Police investigate 3 separate shootings in 12-hour span; man injured outside Potbelly's

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating three separate weekend shootings that occurred within a 12 hour span that injured three people.

On Saturday, around 7 p.m., a 16-year-old was shot on Jim Lee Road near the Jack McLean Community Center, according to a TPD incident alert. The boy suffered a non-life-threatening injury to his thigh.

The next day, just after 2 a.m., another man was shot outside of Potbelly's, a popular night club, at closing time. Off-duty officers were "dispersing the crowd" as the club was closing when gunfire rang out in the road. The victim was found laying in a driveway nearby with a non-life-threatening injury to his leg.

Around three hours after the shooting outside Potbelly's, officers arrived at the Alight West Tennessee Apartments, which caters to college students, where another man was shot in the shoulder.

"The victim stated that he was just sitting in a truck with two other friends when gunfire erupted," TPD said.

All three cases are open and active investigations, and "preliminary investigative efforts indicate none of these incidents are related," TPD said. As of Monday, there have been no arrests and no suspects in any of the cases.

These three incidents are a continuation of this year's bouts of gun violence. So far in 2024, nine people have been killed and 18 people have been injured in at least 24 serious shootings in the capital city and county, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.

This isn't the first time Potbelly's has made headlines for a shooting.

In 2021, two people were injured in two shootings just four months apart around closing time at the bar, which calls itself "Tallahassee's hottest party spot." In March 2021, multiple fights escalated to gunfire, striking a Florida A&M University student in the chest.

In June 2021, shots rang out as roughly 1,500 people as a night-time "Bikinis and Ballers" event came to a close. A man was left fighting for his life after the incident.
