Hartford teen who died from fentanyl OD had 100 bags of the opioid in his bedroom: police

A Hartford teenager who died from a fentanyl overdose had 100 bags of the synthetic opioid in his bedroom, police said Tuesday.

The unidentified 13-year-old boy collapsed Jan. 13 at a Hartford secondary school and died two days later.

Police immediately searched the school, Sport and Medical Sciences Academy, and discovered about 40 more bags of fentanyl in the school gym and in two classrooms. The teen was in the gym when he lost consciousness.

Cops said the 100 bags found in the boy’s bedroom were packaged in the same way. Nothing suggests that anyone else brought fentanyl to the school, according to police.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in the case, but that person has not been identified and no arrests have been made.

Police said the teen’s mother had no prior knowledge that her son had stashed a significant amount of the potent synthetic drug in his bedroom, the Hartford Courant reported. Cops said she was “fully cooperative” with the investigation.
