Police fatally shoot man at San Francisco airport, say he was armed

San Francisco police shot and killed a man Thursday morning at San Francisco International Airport. Cops said the man was carrying two guns.

Officers were called to the scene at SFO’s international terminal around 7:30 a.m., police said.

At least one TSA agent and multiple other people called police and said the man was behaving suspiciously, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

Police said they attempted to calm the man down for at least 30 minutes, but he pulled two guns and continued his “threatening behavior,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Cops said they fired beanbag rounds at the man, but he continued walking toward them.

At that point, officers opened fire and killed the man, San Francisco police said in a statement. They did not say how many shots the officers fired, and did not mention anything about the man firing any shots.

No video of the shooting has been released.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the incident, the Chronicle reported. San Francisco International Airport is physically located in San Mateo County.

The shooting occurred near the airport’s Bay Area Rapid Transit station, and service was briefly interrupted, according to the Chronicle. Travelers were routed away from the scene for about two hours before normal airport operations resumed.
