“Pokémon With Guns” Game Palworld Is Coming To Game Pass Next Week

Palworld, as its creator describes it, is “a brand new multiplayer monster-collecting game with open-world survival elements.” Everybody else, though, has taken to calling it “Pokémon with guns” because, well, that’s pretty much exactly what it looks like. And next week, it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Pocket Pair, the developer behind Palworld, announced on Twitter that the game would be headed to Steam in early access on January 19, 2024. It also announced that it would be available on Game Pass, on both PC and Xbox Series X|S on the same day, although crossplay between the two platforms won’t be available at first.

Palworld has been described by many as Pokémon with guns, being a game filled with cute, Pokémon-like creatures, many of which have weapons like miniguns. The player character also has a gun, and quite often shoots at the creatures, called Pals, which is certainly an interesting idea given how much people love their creatures in creature collecting games.

It was announced back in 2022, and quickly went viral after clips of the game were shared on Twitter and TikTok. At first, many thought it was just a joke, but subsequent marketing material confirmed that it is very real, and with time, it started to become pretty highly anticipated.

It’s hard to tell exactly how big of a crowd it’ll draw, but the game’s Twitter account has amassed 40,000 followers so far, and with the game being effectively free for Game Pass subscribers, it should have a pretty decent player base at launch.

Pocket Pair says on Palworld’s Steam page that it expects Palworld to be in early access for approximately a year, during which the game will cost $29.99. During that year, new content, including creatures, areas, dungeons, items, and buildings will be added, and it will eventually be released in full, potentially at a higher price — though that hasn’t been set in stone just yet.
