Podcast: The latest on Cormani McClain and other takeaways from the Under Armour Game

National signing day is now less than a month away and the Cormani McClain situation has never been murkier.

It was the big takeaway from the Under Armour Next All-America Game on Tuesday: McClain, who has been orally committed to the Miami Hurricanes for more than two months, keeps saying he’s definitely going to wind up with Miami, but the five-star cornerback’s answers are seldom straight or given with much clarity.

It’s a quiet week in the world of the Hurricanes, so David Wilson checks in after his trip to Orlando to break down the Under Armour All-America Game with Susan Miller Degnan, the Miami Herald’s Hurricanes beat writer, on this new episode of the Eye on the U podcast.

The McClain drama the big topic of conversation, although he wasn’t the only player of Miami interest to suit up at Camping World Stadium. Four-star Melbourne Eau Gallie cornerback Robert Stafford both made a bit of an impression in Central Florida, while elite Miami Central edge rusher Rueben Bain checked off yet another box in his wildly impressive high school career.

There’s also a little bit of an update on Nyckoles Harbor, whom the Hurricanes would still love to get down to Coral Gables for an official visit sometime in January. The five-star athlete is the top uncommitted player in the Class of 2023, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Later on, Wilson and Degnan look at Miami’s new “forever home.” Yes, the Hurricanes are doing more facilities upgrades, just as coach Mario Cristobal and athletic director Dan Radakovich promised they would, and it’s a big deal to keep Miami competitive with Southeastern Conference foes in recruiting.

To close things out, Degnan offers up a remembrance of trustee Paul DiMare, and what he meant to the Hurricanes and the university as a whole.
