Podcast: Are the Heat’s fixes on the roster? A look at potential next moves for Miami

The three-pointers finally started falling for the Miami Heat and it translated into a 110-108 win Wednesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Heat’s whole problem has been it hasn’t happened enough this season.

On a new episode of the Heat Check podcast, David Wilson and Anthony Chiang, the Miami Herald’s Heat beat writer, give their latest diagnosis of Miami and its ongoing offensive issues.

Coincidentally, a lot of the talk, which was recorded before the Thunder game, was about how much of the Heat’s problems stem back to its lackluster three-point shooting and the win in Oklahoma City was a reminder of how it can work for Miami (14-15) when those shots go down.

In the second half, Wilson and Chiang examine what the Heat can actually do to fix its issues, other than hope and pray it can start to shoot better.

Miami clearly needs some help off the bench — and president Pat Riley’s track record certainly suggests the Heat will aggressively look for it — yet it might not be in quite the obvious way. Forward Caleb Martin has locked down the power forward spot and what Miami really needs now is another instant-offense scorer to fill guard Tyler Herro’s old role. They throw out some names who might make sense — including Utah Jazz post player Kelly Olynyk — and figure out what will motivate Riley to make a move.

Maybe wing Victor Oladipo’s closing-time act off the bench at the Paycom Center will change the calculus for the Heat. Miami can get back to .500 on Friday against the Houston Rockets and a soft part of the schedule could finally give the Heat a chance to stack some wins.
