Two outdoor pools in Devon have reopened to welcome visitors back for the start of the summer season.

Tinside Lido and Mount Wise in Plymouth will be open every day until 15 September, from 12:00 to 18:00 BST during term-time and 10:00 to 18:00 BST during the school holidays.

Grade II listed Tinside is situated on Plymouth Hoe, while the Mount Wise complex overlooks the River Tamar.

Councillor Sue Dann, of Plymouth City Council said she hoped "everyone makes the most" of the pools over the summer.

'Amazing space'

Mount Wise, which features a 25m (80ft) main pool, fun pool and children’s paddling pool, is free of charge to "help families make the most of the summer months".

Young musicians from the Plymouth Musical Activities Club marked the opening of Tinside Lido, with a selection of live performances throughout the morning.

Regeneration work is currently under way at the Plymouth Hoe site as part of a five-year Horizons Project programme, but "will not interrupt anyone's enjoyment of the pool", the council said.

The National Lottery Heritage-funded project aims to revamp the single-storey building between the lido and Tinside Cove to create a multi-purpose event space, the authoroity said.

Ms Dann said: "Many already see it as the jewel in Plymouth’s waterfront, but the transformation of this site will create an even more amazing space that can be enjoyed by even more people, as well as truly celebrate the city’s relationship with the sea."

Tinside Lido will also be running a sunrise swim to mark the Summer Solstice at 04:45 BST on 20 June.
