PlayStation 5's new Slim console announced with pre-orders coming soon
PlayStation has announced its new 'Slim' console just in time for the holiday season.
The PS5 'Slim' will be available for US customers from November, with pre-orders beginning soon. UK and international release dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Announcing the new console, PlayStation said: "To address the evolving needs of players, our engineering and design teams collaborated on a new form factor that provides greater choice and flexibility.

"The same technology features that make PS5 the best to play are packed into a smaller form factor, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage."
PlayStation added that the new 'Slim' console has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weighs 18% to 24% less, depending on the model.
The console will have four separate cover panels with its top having a glossy finish and the bottom staying matte.
Those who purchase the PS5 Digital Edition will be able to purchase the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5 separately for $79.99 upon its release.
Sony has also announced that once inventory of the current PS5 model has sold out, the new PS5 will become the only model available.
In the US, the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be priced at $499.99, with the Digital Edition priced at $449.99.

In the UK, the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will set you back £479.99, with the Digital Edition costing £389.99.
Included with the new PS5 model will be a horizontal stand, while a new Vertical Stand compatible with all PS5 models will be sold separately at $29.99.
Fans will also be able to purchase a variety of new PS5 Slim Console Covers starting in early 2024, including an all-matte Black colourway and the Deep Earth Collection colours in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver.
The PlayStation 5 'Slim' will be available at selected retailers and from the PlayStation store.
