Playoff recap: Pampa softball, Canyon baseball still alive in quest for state tourney bids

The high school baseball and softball playoffs continued for Panhandle squads, and two Panhandle squads remain alive in the playoffs.

Here's a recap and roundup of this past week's playoff action.

Baseball

REGIONAL QUARTERFINALS

Class 4A

RANDALL VS. SEMINOLE

Game 1: Seminole 5, Randall 4

Game 2: Seminole 5, Randall 2.

Of note: The Raiders season ends in the regional quarterfinals one year after making a return to the state tournament.

CANYON VS. WEST PLAINS

All games at West Texas A&M

Game 1: Canyon 8, West Plains 7

Game 2: Canyon 9, West Plains 1

Of note: The Eagles advance to the regional semifinals where they will face off with Springtown, who won two one-run games against Decatur.

Class 2A

CLARENDON VS. ROPESVILLE

Game 1: Ropesville 1, Clarendon 0

Game 2: Ropesville 5, Clarendon 0

Of note: The Bulldogs, who won District 2-2A, have their season come to an end with two shutouts at the hands of the Eagles.

Class A

MORTON VS. NAZARETH

All games at Littlefield

Game 1: Morton 12, Nazareth 0

Game 2: Nazareth 13, Morton 4

Game 3: Morton 15, Nazareth 12

Of note: Morton rebounds to win Game 3 and defeat Nazareth in run-filled contest.

Softball

REGIONAL SEMIFINALS

Class 4A

DUMAS VS. SANGER

All games at Abilene Christian University

Game 1: Sanger 8, Dumas 2

Game 2: Dumas 8, Sanger 5

Game 3: Sanger 6, Dumas 5

Of note: Dumas' season comes to an end after forcing a decisive Game 3.

PAMPA VS. BURKBURNETT

All games at Wolfforth Frenship

Game 1: Pampa 6, Burkburnett 2

Game 2: Pampa 8, Burkburnett 1

Of note: The Harvesters will move on to a regional final, looking to punch their ticket to the state tournament.

Class 3A

RIVER ROAD VS. IOWA PARK

Game 1: Iowa Park 13, River Road 1

Game 2: Iowa Park 10, River Road 4

Of note: River Road's stellar run comes to an end as Iowa Park will meet up with defending state champion Coahoma.

BUSHLAND VS. COAHOMA

All games at Rocky Johnson Field, Lubbock

Game 1: Coahoma 11, Bushland 1

Game 2: Coahoma 5, Bushland 0

Of note: The Falcons gave the defending state champs all they could handle in Game 2 but see their season come to an end.
