Planning on voting in Idaho’s general election? Here’s when and where you can do it

Idaho residents will head to the polls throughout Tuesday to vote in a high-stakes election that will decide every statewide office, as well as both of Idaho’s seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and one of the state’s two seats in the U.S. Senate.

Voters will also vote on other key issues on the ballot, such as whether the Idaho Legislature should be able to call itself into a special session without the governor’s approval and if they approve of recent tax cuts and increased education spending.

According to the Idaho secretary of state’s office, just over 1 million Idahoans are registered to vote in the Nov. 8 general election, a little over half of the state’s population.

The deadline to register to vote online for the general election has already passed, but it is still possible to register in person on Election Day from 8 a.m. to when the polls close at 8 p.m.

Ada County residents who plan to register on Election Day can do so at their polling location with a valid photo identification, proof of Ada County residency and a state ID number or the last four digits of their Social Security number.

The county provides an interactive map that allows users to input their address and find their nearest polling location.

Residents can also check if they’re already registered to vote, as well as their nearest polling location, on the Idaho secretary of state’s website.

Absentee voting locations in Idaho

Ada County allows residents to cast their ballot before Election Day by using an absentee ballot and voting by mail or at a drop box.

Those who wish to vote by mail must have their ballot returned to the county clerk by 8 p.m. Tuesday, meaning if it has not already been mailed, then it’s probably too late. But residents with absentee ballots can also drop off their ballot at one of six drop box locations before 8 p.m. Tuesday:

Ada County Elections: 400 N. Benjamin Lane, Suite 100, Boise

Boise City Hall: 150 N. Capitol Blvd, Boise

Eagle City Hall: 660 E. Civic Lane, Eagle

Kuna City Hall: 751 W. 4th St., Kuna

Meridian City Hall: 33 E. Broadway Ave., Meridian

Star City Hall: 10769 W. State St., Star

Ada County also offers residents early voting ahead of every election, but early voting for Tuesday’s election closed on Friday, Nov. 4. Early voting is typically open 15 to 22-days prior to an election, according to the Ada County Clerk’s Office.
