SEE IT: Jet burst into flames after crash — and the only injury was back pain

A plane crashed near a Houston-area airport and burst into flames Tuesday, an official said.

Each of the 21 passengers and crew members aboard the MD-87 aircraft managed to evacuate the plane after it crashed while taking off at Houston Executive Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration.

“The information we have at this time indicates that the plane did not attain altitude at the end of the runway and went across Morton Road, coming to a rest in the field just north of the airport, where it caught on fire,” Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said on Facebook.

The lone passenger to report an injury in the incident experienced back pain, Duhon said.

The plane was headed to Boston to take people to Tuesday night’s Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Astros and Red Sox, according to Houston news station KTRK.

Shocking video published by Houston news station KHOU shows flames and smoke towering over the decimated plane after it crashed in the field.

“At this time, numerous first responders are on scene and the plane is on fire and burning off jet fuel,” Duhon said shortly before noon local time. “That is the extent of information we have at this time.”

The emergency responders can be seen attempting to put out the blaze with a water hose in the footage posted by KHOU.

Houston Executive Airport is in Waller County, located about 55 miles northwest of downtown Houston.
