These places are closed Wednesday due to snow remaining in Whatcom County

With half a foot or more of snow remaining on the ground in Whatcom County Wednesday morning, Dec. 21, government agencies continue to ask people to stay off the roads if possible.

Local schools remain closed for winter break but other agencies have announced closures for Wednesday due to the snow on social media and in emails to The Bellingham Herald:

▪ Whatcom County Library System branches will have delayed openings Wednesday due to road conditions. Staff plan to open county library buildings at noon; openings may be further delayed based on local conditions. The administrative building on Northwest Drive will open at 10 a.m. Island Library (Lummi Island) is closed on Wednesdays.

▪ Many city services will continue to be closed or limited on Wednesday in Bellingham.

▪ Parks maintenance staff are clearing parking lots and bathroom access as quickly as possible, but access is still limited to many parks. Bayview Cemetery, Big Rock Garden, Civic Stadium (except restrooms), Arne Hanna Aquatic Center and all Whatcom Museum facilities are closed Wednesday. Parks Department camps are canceled.

▪ All Bellingham Public Library branches are closed Wednesday. Branches will also be closed Friday, Dec. 23, to Monday, Dec. 26, and Jan. 1-2, 2023, for the holidays.

▪ Whatcom Transportation Authority will not offer flex or zone service Wednesday due to snow.

▪ Western Washington University closed the campus Wednesday due to the accumulation of snow and ice. Frigid temperatures are slowing cleanup efforts and there will be no on-campus activities, according to a campus email.

▪ Due to the danger of falling branches, pedestrians should also avoid the Sehome Arboretum, WWU noted.

▪ The Colophon Cafe will be closed Wednesday due to weather.

▪ Boundary Bay Brewery announced on Facebook that it will be closed Wednesday due to snow.

▪ Leaf & Ladle restaurant is closed Wednesday.

▪ D’Anna’s Cafe Italiano is closed on Wednesday.

▪ Cosmos Bistro is closed on Wednesday.

Closed on Tuesday

▪ Bayview Cemetery and Big Rock Garden in Bellingham are closed due to snow.

▪ Tuesday night’s athletics events have been canceled by the Ferndale School District. Games will be rescheduled at a later time.

▪ The Whatcom Chief will run a modified schedule Tuesday due to severe weather. Ferry runs will increase as conditions improve.

▪ The Same Day Clinic at the Medical Office Plaza building on St. Joseph hospital campus is closed. The Same Day at Cordata is open as are all other Peace Health clinics.

▪ The Whatcom County Health Department has closed its offices but many staff members are working remotely and are still available via email.

▪ All branches of Bellingham Public Library will be closed on Tuesday,due to severe weather, snow and icy road conditions. All events scheduled for Tuesday at the library are also canceled.

▪ The Arne Hanna Aquatic Center is closed Tuesday. Civic Stadium is closed except for restrooms. Bellingham community restrooms in parks will see a delayed opening.

▪ Many city services may not be available Tuesday in Ferndale.

▪ Blaine City Hall offices are closed Tuesday.

▪ Bellingham Parks and Recreation camps are canceled Tuesday.

▪ All Whatcom County Library System branches and the administrative office on Northwest Drive will be closed Tuesday due to snow and driving conditions. Online services are available.

▪ Whatcom Transportation Authority is running snow routes Tuesday morning. “We’re running slow but steady. Be safe out there.” Several roads are not getting service due to snow.

▪ Western Washington University announced it will be closed Tuesday due to last night’s snowfall. The university’s suspended operations policy will be in place for employees and there will be no on-campus activities.

▪ The Whatcom Community College campus is closed Tuesday due to inclement weather.

▪ The Barber Shack is closed Tuesday.

▪ Birrieria Tijuana is closed Tuesday.

▪ The Allied Arts gallery, thrift store and offices are closed Tuesday.

▪ Ambo Ethiopian Cuisine posted on its Facebook page that it is closed Tuesday due to snow.

▪ D’Anna’s Cafe Italiano is closed on Tuesday.

▪ All Avenue Bread cafes are closed on Tuesday.

▪ Gandolfo’s New York Deli is closed on Tuesday due to inclement weather.
