Pittsburgh Pirates call up Paul Skenes from Triple-A Indianapolis Indians

Paul Skenes lasted about six weeks in Indianapolis.

Last year's No. 1 overall MLB Draft pick has been called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 21-year-old made seven starts with the Indians, striking out 45 batters and walking 8 while allowing 17 hits in 27 1/3 innings with a 0.99 ERA.

“The biggest thing is just building up,” Skenes said before the season began. “Building up volume, getting ready for the long season ahead.”

The Pirates have scheduled his first start for Saturday against the Chicago Cubs.

Skenes went 13-2 last season for national champion LSU, striking out 209 in 122 2/3 innings.
