Piscataway Magnet's Jacob Lyerly finishes baseball career in style, voted Player of Week
Here’s one way to put an exclamation point on your outstanding career.
Piscataway Magnet’s Jacob Lyerly laced three triples, including the game-winning walk-off hit that scored his younger brother Colton in a 10-9 win over Plainfield on May 14 in the Eagles’ season finale on senior night.
Readers voted Lyerly the MyCentralJersey.com Readers’ Choice Baseball Player of the Week for his efforts. Lyerly hit .429 this season with a team-high 17 runs scored and added 10 RBIs, 10 walks and seven stolen bases.
He also struck out 42 hitters in 30 innings and allowed eight walks. For his career, Lyerly hit .432 (60-for-139) with five home runs and 48 RBIs. The righthander struck 101 hitters in 85 1/3 career innings.
“Jacob has made a huge impact on the program,” Piscataway Magnet coach Greg Sampson said. “He was one of the captains and his leadership really help show the underclassman how things are done. Not only that he made the (All-GMC) Academic Team.“
