Pioneer Road Culver's in Fond du Lac has reopened after fire, and a formal reopening will celebrate first responders

FOND DU LAC – The Pioneer Road Culver's in Fond du Lac is back.

The Culver's at 81 W. Pioneer Road has been closed since April 26 as crews worked to clean up and repair after a fire in the attic space. The ButterBurger and frozen custard restaurant reopened May 23.

Additionally, Culver's will formally celebrate its reopening with a ribbon-cutting honoring first responders at 10 a.m. May 28, according to a company spokesperson.

Culver's co-founder Craig Culver will be in attendance to help the location's owner, Anna Lohmann, thank the first responders for all they did for the building and community.

All firefighters, police and EMS who visit the Pioneer Road location May 28 will receive a free meal when they show identification of their first responder status.

"We’re excited to be reopening our restaurant," Lohmann said. "This is a fantastic community, and we’ve worked very hard to be able to again serve our guests our handcrafted meals and tasty frozen treats, all with the warm hospitality Culver’s is known for."

Remember when ...: Remember when the Forest Mall first opened in Fond du Lac? Features included the fountain and yearly bazaars.

A construction company working on the roof reported the fire at almost 2 a.m. April 26. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue extinguished the fire quickly once the firefighters could access the attic, but first, they needed to open multiple holes in the ceiling, according to the department after the fire.

The building had also sustained smoke and water damage.
