Pink to Receive Icon Award at 2021 Billboard Music Awards

Pink will be honored with the Icon Award at this year’s Billboard Music Awards on May 23.

Pink is also set to perform at the awards show. She’ll join the nine other Icon Award recipients since the honor was instituted in 2011: Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Cher, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion.

“As a little girl, I always dreamed about being a singer and sharing my love of music with the world. Years later, to receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award is hard to fathom,” Pink said in a statement. “I feel so honored to join the ranks of music idols like Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder. It’s a true ‘pinch me’ moment and I feel humbled and blessed.”

Although the singer has not announced new music since the April 2019 release of her “Hurts 2B Human” album, she’s coming back into the spotlight with a recently announced documentary, “Pink: All I Know So Far,” set for release via Amazon Prime Video less than a week after the Billboard Awards, on May 29. The film, directed by Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”), documents her 2019 “Beautiful Trauma” tour.

The BBMAs Icon Award “recognizes outstanding artists who have achieved excellence on the Billboard charts and have made an indelible mark on music itself,” according to the press release. Pink has a long history of appearing on the Billboard charts, spanning more than two decades. Over her career, Pink has acquired 33 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including 15 top 10 songs and four No. 1 hits, which include “Lady Marmalade” in 2001, “So What” in 2008, “Raise Your Glass” in 2010 and “Just Give Me a Reason” in 2013.

As for Pink’s albums, eight have reached top 10 placements on the Billboard 200 album chart, with her three most recent outings debuting in the No. 1 spot. Pink was also honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year in 2013.

The 2021 BBMAs will broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on May 23 at 5 p.m. PT/ 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
